Over 234 metres of transoms needed replacing on the Ovens River Bridge in Wangaratta, Victoria.

Brunton supported the clients to execute this project.

Our Solution

  • Transom replacements are usually conducted during train running or limited occupations. They involve a fine balance between pre-works and occupation works.
  • Brunton’s dedicated engineer was onsite to manage multiple subcontractors for different areas of the project.
  • Brunton worked with Raven Scaffolds to implement a range of scaffolds that did not encumber the movement of sleepers. This enabled safe access to the underside of the structure.
  • The team carried out site surveys to understand the track’s condition. They conducted a specific method of checking track geometry during the works to maintain proper alignment.
  • When carrying out rail works, it’s important to finish the works on time in line with scheduled occupations. Brunton completed this project quickly and in line with scheduled occupations. The team worked during 50–60 work periods to make the rail track safe for trains to run again.

Our Results

Brunton is proud to be able to provide all clients an end-to-end engineering service. The project engineer engaged multiple subcontractors, so Brunton complete this project.

Transom bridge works highlight Brunton’s ability to coordinate track reinstatement over other structures and provide a full-service option for all our clients.
