RPV and Downer Infrastructure Projects contracted Brunton to support the upgrade of the Waurn Ponds train station. Our team manufactured and installed structural steelwork and various facilities to improve the train station for commuters.

Our Solution

  • Brunton worked to fabricate and install:
    • a new overpass
    • lift shafts
    • pedestrian ramps
    • shelters
    • other structures.
  • Brunton constructed the 46 m (L) x 6 m (W) x 5 m (H) pedestrian overpass with three transportable sub-assemblies with a triple camber of +/- 160 mm.
  • The final steel structure weighed more than 110 tonnes. This comprised of the:
    • overpass
    • composite deck
    • mesh screens
    • handrails
  • Bruton completed the overpass installation with a 600-tonne crawler crane. The team worked an After Last, Before First (ALBF) shift to get this work.
  • The team installed two list shafts and composite deck pedestrian ramps. Brunton fabricated these in-house to minimise craneage around rail movements.

Our Results

The team worked hard to complete the project by the deadlines. We produced several additions to the train station after the project ended.

Brunton helped the client solve multiple design queries. The team provided multiple unique solutions to complete the project.
